Episode 136 – Travel Hacking

So now you know what credit cards I have used to get across the world.  Later this summer when I go to Europe I am only using 30,000 American Airlines points to get there.  Not too bad.  It’s about the cheapest you can do. Economy of course.  One thing I forgot to mention in the podcast is something called Chase 5/24, which means that you can not get more than 5 credit cards in the last 24 months with Chase, so that makes you somewhat limited at times and makes you have to be smart about what credit cards you sign up for.  Most theories say to start with the Chase transferrable cards like the Chase Preferred ($95) or the Chase Sapphire ($550).  I have not ventured into the American Express cards because they are once-in-a-lifetime cards, and I want to drain my other cards and points before going to them, so I do not have outrageous year fees.  Look for cheap flights through Going.com.  I have flown to Hong Kong for $495.00, Brussels for about $500, Lisbon for about $600, Dublin for about $600, Minnaplois for $97.  Lot’s of great pricing that you can find through Going.Com.  No need to use points when prices are that cheap.  Also, date flexibility is your friend when planning your trip, and if you can travel in the shoulders months you will save big as well.

If you have been thinking about getting one of these credit cards use my links: Capital One Venture X, Southwest Airlines Personal and/or Business Cards, Chase Sapphire Reserve, Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Business Ink Cards, and the IHG (Holiday Inn) Cards. If you use my links to sign up for the card I get some points, and again it doesn’t cost you anything to help out the show.  Some of these credit card links do not last long.  If the link doesn’t work please contact me and I can send one to you in real time.  Remember, if you are unable to pay your credit cards off monthly then it is not worth getting these.  Thanks so much!
