Episode 164 – Gaining Status on Airlines

I hope you enjoyed the podcast. Airline status makes your travel experience better.  Gaining airline status can be difficult, but if you follow my insight it can be attainable by focusing on it during your normal spending habits.  Beyond flying on the airline (make sure you are a member of their miles program), here is what I covered specifically for American Airlines.  It is similiar for all U.S. major carriers.

  1. The fee free Citi bank Addvantage Mileup Card.  I use it for all my grocery shopping because I get 2X points.  I do not spend on it for any other store because I would only get 1X, and I can do better with my other cards like the Venture X that gets me 2X points everywhere, and the Chase Sapphire Reserve that gets me 3X at restaurants and 3X for travel.
  2. AAdvantage Hotels – this is where I have seen the biggest points available
  3. AAdvantage Dining – sign-up any credit card or credit cards, and get 3X points for selected restaurants.  When you have done that enough times (about 10 meals) the program will bump you to 5X points for every dollar spent.
  4. AAdvantage Eshopping – Great when buying for the big chain stores.

After using these principles I have been able to maintain my American Airlines Gold Status for years, which I really love.

If you would like to help the show and you have been thinking about getting one of these credit cards use my links: Capital One Venture X, Southwest Airlines Personal and/or Business Cards, Chase Sapphire Reserve, Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Business Ink Cards, and the IHG (Holiday Inn) Cards. If you use my links to sign up for the card I get some points, and again it doesn’t cost you anything to help out the show.  Some of these credit card links do not last long.  If the link doesn’t work please contact me and I can send one to you in real time.  Remember, if you are unable to pay your credit cards off monthly then it is not worth getting these.  Thanks so much!
